Named scholarships & funds

When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.

For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of С»ÆƬÊÓƵ alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.

Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.

If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Rogers, June Thomas International Student Fund

The June Thomas Rogers International Student Fund was established in 1995 for the purpose of 1) encouraging new international students to pursue degree studies at The University of Akron and 2) rewarding continuing international students. All international students who make first-time applications to The University of Akron for undergraduate degree studies and who demonstrate interest in the scholarship will be considered for the scholarships. However, preference will be given to students who demonstrate the following criteria: commitment to returning to the home country and using knowledge gained at С»ÆƬÊÓƵ for the development of the home country, the chosen field of study is underrepresented within international students, gender is underrepresented among С»ÆƬÊÓƵ international students, and student's potential for disseminating knowledge to a wide audience upon return to the home country.

International students already pursuing undergraduate degree studies at The University of Akron can apply for an outstanding international student scholarship. These scholarships will be awarded on the basis of the students' work in building "bridges" between U.S. and international students on the С»ÆƬÊÓƵ campus, achievement of academic excellence, and need, as well as the criteria listed above for new international student scholarships.
