Named scholarships & funds

When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.

For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of С»ÆƬÊÓƵ alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.

Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.

If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Gault, Stanley C. Goodyear Asian Region Scholarship

The Stanley C. Gault Goodyear Asian Region Scholarship pays tribute to the greatness of character that education cultivates and protects. Stanley C. Gault helped The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company grow into one of the nation's greatest global companies, and under his leadership, Goodyear was the first major global tire company to enter China, where it acquired both a tire plant and an automotive hose plant.

The Goodyear Global Scholarship Program, established in 1998, enhances the continuing spirit of partnership between The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company and The University of Akron. Numerous University graduates have gone on to hold key positions at Goodyear, while Goodyear executives share their expertise in University classes and advisory groups. Preparing competent and responsible future leaders in the field of international business is the central mission of The Goodyear Global Scholarship Program.

The Goodyear Global Scholarship Program makes available four full-academic undergraduate scholarships to the sons and daughters of full-time Goodyear associates, subsidiaries, and retirees worldwide. The annual competition for these awards, administered by Goodyear's four business units, identifies and honors four academically talented students seeking degrees in international business. Four scholarships are awarded annually from each of Goodyear's four regions: Asian Region, European Region, North American Region, and Latin American Region and honors the regional global contributions of Goodyear's four recent chairmen, Stanley C. Gault, Tom H. Barrett, Robert E. Mercer, and Charles J. Pilliod, Jr., respectively.
