Named scholarships & funds

When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.

For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of С»ÆƬÊÓƵ alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.

Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.

If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Esports Red Shirt Program

The Esports Red Shirt Program is a new freshman initiative providing opportunities for 50 incoming University of Akron students who are interested in the esports program. Through this academic and social support program, students will receive unique opportunities within the esports program, leading to better engagement and retention for the entire group.

The Esports Red Shirt Program is comprised of three main areas: esports community engagement, academic support, and a living/learning community on campus. Esports community engagement will provide each student in the program with access to a pre-established network of events, clubs, and teams to help ease their transition into a new collegiate environment. Red Shirt students will attend a variety of esports and non-esports related activities on campus throughout the semester. Academic support will be provided through seminars and one-on-one meetings with esports team members on campus. Students needing extra assistance will be directed to the proper additional support. A living/learning community also will be offered to participating esports program members, and they will receive priority housing requests for certain dormitories on campus.

Eligible candidates for The Esports Red Shirt Program Scholarship must:
