When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.
For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of 小黄片视频 alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.
Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.
If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

The Department of Development does not accept applications for or distribute scholarships. Scholarships are distributed through the University’s Office of Student Financial Aid.

Slocum, Dr. Sally K. Endowed Scholarship
The Dr. Sally K. Slocum Endowed Scholarship was established in 2010 by Dennis H. Gartman, a 1972 University of Akron graduate and editor/publisher of the Gartman Letter, to honor his beloved former professor.
Dr. Slocum is a professor emerita at The University of Akron. She was an associate professor of English from 1966 to 1996, when she was recognized with an Outstanding Teacher Award. During her years at the University, Dr. Slocum was involved with the Ohio Shakespeare Conference, serving on the Conference Planning Committee in 1989. Dr. Slocum impacted thousands of lives with her passion and ardor for the literature she taught and instilled in her students. It is that same passion that inspired Mr. Gartman to establish this scholarship in her honor.
Dr. Sally Kennedy Slocum graduated from Columbia College, Columbia, S.C., earning a bachelor of arts degree in English and French. She received her master of arts degree and doctorate in English literature from the University of Tennessee.
Mr. Gartman fondly remembers his formative years at The University of Akron and the guidance of Dr. Sally Slocum, who served as his mentor as well as instructor. He graduated cum laude in 1972, earning a bachelor of arts degree in English. Mr. Gartman advocates the benefits of a liberal arts degree, often advising students to “read more literature and study psychology and philosophy – all of which prepares you to deal with the complexity of human nature.”
The Dr. Sally K. Slocum Endowed Scholarship was established by Mr. Gartman to support liberal arts students enrolled in the Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences at The University of Akron, with preference given to English majors. Awards will be made by the dean’s office in the Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences in coordination with the Office of Financial Aid.
