Named scholarships & funds

When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.

For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of С»ÆƬÊÓƵ alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.

Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.

If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

LGBTQ+ Diversity in Experience Endowed Scholarship for College of Business Undergraduates

The LGBTQ+ Diversity in Experience Endowed Scholarship for College of Business Undergraduates was established by Richard D. Angeletti III in January 2022 and revised in May 2022 to become an endowment. Richard (Rick or Ricky) Angeletti '16 graduated as the student responder with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and a second major in Economics. During his time at The University of Akron, Mr. Angeletti valued a diverse college experience, and he was heavily involved in student life on campus and in the Akron community beyond his academic studies. Mr. Angeletti believes a diverse experience complements a student's academic program and is a key component to overall student success. While Mr. Angeletti is now a proud and "out" member of the LGBTQ+ community, this couldn't be said during his time at С»ÆƬÊÓƵ. By establishing this scholarship, Mr. Angeletti hopes to assist current business students on their paths to personal and professional success while encouraging them to be their authentic selves.

Recipients of The LGBTQ+ Diversity in Experience Endowed Scholarship for College of Business Undergraduates shall be undergraduate students enrolled in any major in The University of Akron College of Business. This scholarship is dedicated to students who have made contributions to the LGBTQ+ community through leadership, service, research, participating in recognized LGBTQ+ student organizations, and/or volunteering. This scholarship promotes students who break barriers, forge their own paths, and are actively involved on campus and/or in their community.

Selection of the recipient will be determined by the College of Business Dean's Scholarship Committee.
