When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.

For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of С»ÆƬÊÓƵ alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.

Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.

If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Students who want to apply for scholarships should visit the scholarship page on the Financial Aid site. You can find the link for the online application here.

The Department of Development does not accept applications for or distribute scholarships. Scholarships are distributed through the University’s Office of Student Financial Aid.

Ochsenhirt, Timothy and Roetzel & Andress, LPA, Endowed Scholarship Fund

The Timothy Ochsenhirt and Roetzel & Andress, LPA, Endowed Scholarship Fund at The University of Akron School of Law was established in 2007 as a result of the Roetzel & Andress, LPA, Firm Challenge 2007, wherein contributions to the fund from School of Law alumni employed by the firm were fully matched by Roetzel & Andress, LPA. The challenge was led by Amie Bruggeman, class of 1982, Of Counsel. The School of Law is grateful for her support and leadership, as well as that of attorneys Ronald S. Kopp and Timothy Ochsenhirt.

Ochsenhirt was named chairman and chief executive officer of Roetzel & Andress, LPA, in 1985 and has led the firm through unprecedented growth. He received a bachelor’s degree from The University of Akron in 1968 and his J.D. from the University of Virginia in 1971.

Ochsenhirt devotes much of his energy and expertise in leadership roles with organizations in the Akron community such as: founding board member of Info Line, Inc.; past president of The University of Akron National Alumni Board of Directors; Akron Bar Scholarship Foundation board member; Imagine Akron 2025 Board of Advisors; Summit County Crime Stoppers board member; and as chairman of the Akron Bar Association’s Diversity Committee. The School of Law is proud to honor Ochsenhirt for his commitment to Akron Law, the community, and the legal profession through the establishment of this scholarship fund.

Roetzel & Andress, LPA, is a valued partner and has helped further the growth and success of the School of Law. The firm’s commitment of support to the School of Law’s mission to better serve students is greatly appreciated.

The Timothy Ochsenhirt and Roetzel & Andress, LPA, Endowed Scholarship Fund is designated to scholarships for law students who are members of the Black Law Students Association and the Asian/Latino Student Association. Roetzel & Andress, LPA, is proud to assist students who work to foster diversity and demonstrate academic excellence and leadership. Scholarship awards may cover tuition, fees, books, and room and board, all or in part.
