Named scholarships & funds

When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.

For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of С»ÆƬÊÓƵ alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.

Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.

If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Hagerman, J. Randall Memorial Scholarship

The J. Randall Hagerman Memorial Scholarship was established in 2012 by Margaret Hagerman in memory of her late husband, J. Randall Hagerman. Born in Fresno, Calif., Mr. Hagerman attended The University of Akron and graduated in 1951 with a bachelor of science degree in business administration. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1953 with the rank of Captain. In 1956 he graduated from the University of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, following post-graduate studies in hospital administration. During his career, he worked in a number of health-care administrative positions, including Akron Children’s Hospital and the Toronto General Hospital, where he served in the position of Administrator. The J. Randall Hagerman Memorial Scholarship was established to support students enrolled in the College of Business Administration at The University of Akron. Recipients will be selected on the basis of academic merit, leadership skills, and financial need by the Office of the Dean in the College of Business Administration in coordination with the Office of Financial Aid.
