Named scholarships & funds

When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.

For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of С»ÆƬÊÓƵ alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.

Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.

If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Chelovitz, Milo E. and Mary Lou Award for The University of Akron Student Group - The Orthodox Christian Fellowship (OCF)

The Milo E. and Mary Lou Chelovitz Award for The University of Akron Student Group - The Orthodox Christian Fellowship (OCF) was established in 2013 by Milo and Mary Lou Chelovitz with the intention of assisting student members of The University of Akron student organization, The Orthodox Christian Fellowship (OCF). OCF is the official collegiate campus ministry program under SCOBA (the Standing Conference of Canonical Orthodox Bishops in the Americas). Its mission is to support fellowships on college campuses, whose members experience and witness the Orthodox Christian Church through community life, prayer, service to others, and study of the Faith.

It is the intention of Milo and Mary Lou to develop a fund which focuses on providing financial assistance, as needed, and supporting the spiritually related endeavors of University students who wish to enrich their college experience while also practicing their faith. Milo and Mary Lou grew up in Northeastern Ohio and are practicing members of the Orthodox faith.
