Students audition for The University of Akron Dance Company for both fall and spring dance concerts. С»ÆƬÊÓƵDC provides students with the opportunity to work with С»ÆƬÊÓƵ dance faculty as well as guest choreographers from all over the world and perform on stage at EJ Thomas Hall and other performance venues.
Choreographers' Workshop is a course taken by students who have completed Choreography I. Students develop their own choreography on peers, hold an audition to cast their piece, schedule rehearsals, and present their final work to the public. Student choreographers are advised and mentored by faculty. Every fall, an outstanding student piece is selected from Choreographers' Workshop and showcased in the fall С»ÆƬÊÓƵDC concert.
Every year, the University of Akron Dance Program welcomes professional guest artists who share their experiences and teach masterclasses to С»ÆƬÊÓƵ dance students.

Dance Share is an informal showing once every semester that provides С»ÆƬÊÓƵ students with the opportunity to share their personal dance creations and receive feedback from both faculty and peers.
World Dance is a course required for majors. С»ÆƬÊÓƵ dance students explore diverse cultural expressions of dance by learning non-western dance forms, attending lectures, and presenting a final performance.
Past World Dance workshops have included studies in Bharatanatyam, Capoeira, African-Dance, and Hip Hop culture to name a few.
Dance students collaborate with the С»ÆƬÊÓƵ Costume Shop to create costumes for their choreographic work. Dancers get hands-on experience working with professional costume designers and may even produce costumes themselves to make their artistic vision come to life on stage!
The everyday life of a dancer can take a physical toll on the body. From classes to auditions, performances, and extracurricular dance activities, some days it never stops. Luckily, we also have student physical therapists on our premises to help keep you in top shape and offer healthy advice to keep you on the move!
