Biography

Matthew Roberts is an Akron native that studied at the University of Akron’s Dance Institute before moving to New York to get his B.F.A. in Dance with a concentration in Choreography from Marymount Manhattan College. There he performed works by Lar Lubovitch, Robert Battle, Jessica Lang, and Shen Wei and performed with the following companies after graduation for the next decade; Lustig Dance Theatre, Oakland Ballet Company, Awakening Movement, Molissa Fenley, Tami Stronach Dance, Neos Dance Theatre, Bruce Wood Dance, Zion Dance Project, Pegasus Contemporary, Osage Ballet, Springfield Ballet, Ballet Legato, MooreDunson Co, Störling Dance Theater, Ballet Papillon, and Earthen Image Movement. Along with teaching at local dance studios, he is an adjunct professor for dance at Youngstown State University and recently started a faith-based contemporary dance company in Akron called Frtrss Dance Theatre.
