Stephanie Martinez is an award-winning Chicago dance artist with over 30 years professional performing experience. Her 2009 choreographic debut, AviMar, for Luna Negra Dance Theatre’s 10th anniversary season, instantly secured her status as a sought-after dancemaker. She has since traveled the country as a master teacher and professional choreographer, setting works on dance companies and university departments, in addition to a slew of reputable ensembles local to her native Chicago.

Dusting The Knickknacks, Trashing the Chotskys charts the terrain of a relationship. From meeting, falling in love, arguing, passing the bad mood back and forth, to going separate ways, this dance uses full bodied partnering and idiosyncratic gestures to show the heartbreak in unmet expectations.
"I was inspired by a newly released Pink Floyd song in which cuts from a 1970’s interview with Roger Waters are heard. The phrases led me to think about all of the things we don’t (but should) say in life and what effect those unspoken words have on our psyches."
