On April 12, 2024, The University of Akron's College of Engineering and Polymer Science hosted The Order of the Engineer ring ceremony at the Jean Hower Taber Student Union, marking a significant milestone for 171 graduating seniors and seven faculty members.

The event centered around inducting these individuals into The Order of the Engineer, an organization committed to fostering ethics and professionalism within the engineering profession.

During the ceremony, inductees pledged to uphold the standards and dignity of the engineering profession while serving humanity by effectively managing the world’s resources. As a tangible reminder of this commitment, they were each presented with a stainless-steel ring, traditionally worn on the fifth finger of their working hand.

“The Order of the Engineer ceremony is an important event for the College,” said Dr. Joan Carletta, associate dean of the College of Engineering and Polymer Science. “The ceremony reflects on the impact engineers play in society and celebrates the commitment of our newest engineering graduates to shoulder their responsibility to the public good throughout their careers.”

The Order of the Engineer serves a vital role in instilling a sense of pride and accountability within the engineering community, bridging the gap between training and experience. Moreover, it provides a recognizable symbol to the public, identifying individuals dedicated to the highest engineering standards.

Congratulations to this year’s inductees, and sincere appreciation goes to the College’s staff members whose efforts were instrumental in coordinating and facilitating this significant event. The event was managed by the College’s Co-op and Placement Program.
