University of Akron students Douglas Beltowski, Tibor Gal and Dawn Wenger received Confucius Institute (CI) scholarships from the Hanban/Confucius Institute headquarters in China. The students will use their scholarships to study at Henan University in Kaifeng, Henan, China for one to two semesters, beginning Sept. 1.
Meanwhile, Beltowski, a computer science major from Medina; Gal, an international politics and French major from Akron; and Wenger, a psychology major from Dalton, are busy preparing for their study abroad, applying for visas and arranging travel plans.
As scholarship recipients, the students will be exempt from tuition and accommodation fees on campus and will receive a monthly allowance and comprehensive medical insurance.
The Hanban/Confucius Institute headquarters established the Confucius Institute Scholarship Program in order to encourage outstanding students at Confucius Institutes worldwide to study Chinese or conduct research on Chinese language and culture in China. Majors supported by Confucius Institute Scholarships include literature, education, history and others.
