Dr. Robert Lord
Robert Lord, distinguished professor of psychology at The University of Akron, has been named the 2012 recipient of the Distinguished Scientific Contributions Award from the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology. This national honor recognizes the individual who has made the most distinguished empirical and/or theoretical scientific contributions to the field of industrial and organizational psychology.
Lord, of Cuyahoga Falls, has long earned national recognition for his groundbreaking research in industrial/organizational psychology and was integral in developing the University's graduate industrial/organizational psychology program, which was ranked among the nation's top 10 in 2009 by U.S. News & World Report. He is a Fellow of the American Psychology Association and the American Psychological Society. His research interests include: information processing and social perceptions; motivation, goal setting and control theory; leadership and group behavior; and self-directed learning.
In addition, Lord has served as the associate editor for the Journal of Applied Psychology and is an editorial board member for Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Leadership Quarterly and the Journal of Applied Social Psychology.
Lord will receive the award at the annual SIOP Convention in San Diego in April.
The Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology is a division within APA that is also an organizational affiliate of APS. The society's mission is to enhance human well-being and performance in organizational and work settings by promoting the science, practice, and teaching of industrial-organizational psychology.
