С»ÆƬÊÓƵ's Tucker Jolly returning Aug. 4 for TubaSummer

07/09/2013

Tucker Jolly, who retired this spring after 33 years as a music professor at The University of Akron, is returning to campus on Sunday, Aug. 4, to conduct TubaSummer at 7 p.m. on Buchtel Common.

Sponsored by the С»ÆƬÊÓƵ School of Music, the free concert will feature summer favorites performed by tuba, sousaphone, baritone and euphonium musicians from throughout the region. It will be on the grass amphitheatre adjacent to Guzzetta Hall and near the towering blue polymer sculpture by renowned artist Dale Chihuly. Audience members are invited to bring picnics, blankets and lawn chairs.

Guzzetta Hall is at 157 University Ave., across from E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall and the Goodyear Poymer Science Center on the С»ÆƬÊÓƵ campus. The rain location is Guzzetta Recital Hall. Free and convenient parking will be available in the parking deck and surface lot on E. Buchtel Avenue, across from Guzzetta Hall.

Like Akron's popular TubaChristmas, which Jolly launched soon after arriving on campus and will conduct again on Dec. 21, TubaSummer has an enduring appeal. This summer is its 14th year.

Musicians are invited to perform. The only rehearsal is the afternoon of the performance. For more information about TubaSummer and to register to play, contact 330-972-8301 or concerts@uakron.edu.
