Join The University of Akron Flute Studio for an interactive experience on campus, including a clinic session with С»ÆƬÊÓƵ Flute Professor - Kimberly Zaleski, and Emeritus Professor of Flute at The University of Akron - George Pope, culminating with an opportunity to perform with the С»ÆƬÊÓƵ Wind Symphony.

CLINICIANS / SOLOISTS
Kimberly Zaleski
A native of Garrison, New York, flutist Kimberly Zaleski has dedicated her career to performing, composing and teaching music. An active promoter of chamber music, she is the Touring Flutist with “David Arkenstone and Friends,” a five-piece band that performs music throughout the United States composed by five-time Grammy nominated composer, David Arkenstone. Highlights include performances at The Grammy Museum in Los Angeles and the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix, Arizona. She is a member of the North Coast Winds, Cleveland's Premier Woodwind Quintet and was also the Co-Founder of the flute, cello, and percussion trio, IN2ATIVE, known for their engaging performances of original compositions. Kimberly is a Performing and Teaching Artist on the Roster of the Center for Arts-Inspired Learning Agency.
Ms. Zaleski is the Principal Flutist of the Firelands Symphony Orchestra and Second Flutist with the CityMusic Cleveland Chamber Orchestra and has performed with The Cleveland Orchestra, Blossom Festival Band, The Cleveland Pops Orchestra, Akron Symphony, Erie Philharmonic, Toledo Symphony, Canton Symphony and New World Symphony. She is a substitute musician for The Pittsburgh Opera, Columbus Symphony, and West Virginia Symphony. Ms. Zaleski was a finalist of both Astral Artists Musical Agency and Carnegie Hall’s Ensemble ACJW Program at The Juilliard School. She holds the distinction of being the first piccoloist on the nationally broadcast radio show, "From the Top."
Ms. Zaleski was a student of Renee Siebert, the former Second Flutist of The New York Philharmonic throughout her high school years. In addition, she studied at the Juilliard School under the instruction of Bradley Garner before pursuing her Bachelor's at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University as a student of renowned soloist, Marina Piccinini. She is a graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music where she received her Master’s Degree as a student of Joshua Smith, Principal Flutist of The Cleveland Orchestra. In addition to her performance career, she is the Assistant Lecturer of Flute at The University of Akron and has given performances and masterclasses at Arizona State University and Penn State University.
George Pope
George Pope is the Emeritus Professor of Flute at The University of Akron (1978-2013) and was Instructor of Flute at The Baldwin Wallace Conservatory for 21 years. Principal Flute of the Akron Symphony from 1978-2002, he has also performed with the Cleveland Orchestra, the Blossom Festival Orchestra, the Brevard Music Center Orchestra and at the Monteux and Spoleto Festivals. He is a founding member of the Solaris Wind Quintet and the Chamber Music Society of Ohio and was named “Arts Educator of 2009” by the Akron Area Arts Alliance. His solo CD “...some measures for living” was released in 2016 by Crystal Records. Laurence Vittes in Gramophone writes, “The wonder of Pope’s playing is how engagingly, articulately, flowingly and objectively he pours himself into the music....” (Sept. 2016) In 2018 he received the Distinguished Service Award from the National Flute Association.
